Manuel Arevelo is a neighborhood northwest of Trujillo's city center. It is in the suburb La Esperanza, which means "hope". La Esperanza has a population of 200,000. It consists of many of the poorer families in Trujillo. Several neighborhoods began as "invasions" or squatter communities. Families begin living in the most basic of housing and over time build a proper home. As the years pass, they will petition the government for basic utilities such as light and water. Those that withstand the test of time may eventually own their own land. The district of La Esperanza grew and consolidated little by little, through the self-construction of houses and communal facilities, the organization of its services, the development of economic, industrial, commercial and service activities. To date, it comprises a total of 9 neighborhoods, 15 human settlements and 2 popular urbanizations, comprising within its territory the Trujillo Industrial Park.
Christ Kids began in this impoverished neighborhood to make a change one child and one family at a time. Pastor Ricardo is the senior pastor at Christ the Restorer Presbyterian Church. He and the members of the church lead the bible club on Sundays.
